Captain Kurt Elwood,

Florida

Nancy Woods from Pisces Fleet writes: "It is hard to believe billfishing can get better than this! Many first time anglers had their hands full with double & triple hook ups on marlin this week. Capt. Kurt Elwood from Estero, Fla. & Wayne Hannum from Milford, Ohio teamed up to catch and release 2 striped marlin aboard the La Brisa, about 18 miles out of cerros de Arena. The Rebecca and Capt.Roberto Sandez had an epic week starting with Terry Dyer (ezlimitz) and friend Terry, hooking and releasing 4 stripers off Destiladera. The boat proceeded to find the fish for Yasuro Nomura from Aguas Caliente and Ichiro Takahashi from Tokyo they caught and released a striped marlin and a sailfish on Monday, 4 striped marlin on Tuesday and then 2 striped marlin and 3 yellowfin tuna on Wednesday!!"

Billfish action at CSL is nothing short of outstanding! More details under "Read More".

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT

JULY 26TH – AUGUST 1ST

BILLFISH:

  • It is hard to believe billfishing can get better than this! The Rebecca and Capt.Roberto Sandez had an epic week starting withTerry Dyer (ezlimitz) and friend Terry, hooking and releasing 4 stripers off Destiladera. The boat proceeded to find the fish for Yasuro Nomura from Aguas Caliente and Ichiro Takahashi from Tokyo they caught and released a striped marlin and a sailfish on Monday, 4 striped marlin on Tuesday and then 2 striped marlin and 3 yellowfin tuna on Wednesday!!
  • Our overall catch success rate for all species combined was a whooping 86 percent.
  • Pisces anglers caught a total of 42 striped marlin, 6 blue marlin and 7 sailfish.
  • OTHER SPECIES:
    • Tuna was deffinately our consistent small game catch of the week. The average size was about 35 pounds, giving some anglers more of a fight than expected. Just a short distance off San Jose seems to be the area most were caught. Once again some large dorados were boated 50 to 60 pounds each just off the old lighthouse on the Pacific side. It seems the number of wahoo has decreased this week, but the odd one was caught up the Sea of Cortez off cerros de arena.
  • WEATHER CONDITIONS:
    • The weather has been beautiful, hot lazy days somewhat cooler nights. The water color is a deep blue just a few miles off shore, many anglers were able to hook up just minutes after heading out. Clear skies and calm seas with a 2 to 4 ft swell.
  • AVERAGE WATER TEMP:
    • 78 – 80 F
  • BEST LURES:
    • Live bait, purple and black
  • Based on the catches of Pisces Fleet / written by Nancy Woods in Tracy Ehrenbergs absents
